Where History Meets Nature: Alara Stream

Acting as a natural border between the Alanya and Manavgat districts of Antalya, Alara Stream (also known as Ulugüney Stream) is one of the most impressive waterways flowing from the heart of the Taurus Mountains to the Mediterranean. Stretching approximately 62 kilometers, this stream offers a captivating atmosphere not only with its natural beauty but also with the Seljuk heritage of Alara Han and the Alara Castle perched on steep cliffs.

A Refreshing Break and Culinary Stops

Especially during the scorching summer months, Alara Stream provides a natural air-conditioning effect with its ice-cold waters. Wooden platforms and riverside restaurants are popular spots where you can enjoy fresh trout or a traditional village breakfast to the soothing sound of the rushing water. Swimming in the shallow areas and taking short walks along the riverbed are among the most popular activities in the region.

Adventure and History Combined

When the water levels are suitable, Alara Stream offers enjoyable medium-difficulty routes for canoeing and rafting enthusiasts. However, what truly sets it apart from other streams is the majestic Alara Castle rising right beside it. Built on steep rocks to ensure the safety of caravans on the Silk Road, the castle offers a magnificent view for visitors with good physical stamina. At the foot of the castle, Alara Han still stands as one of the finest examples of caravanserai architecture from that era.
