On the slopes of Akdağ — the second highest peak in western Antalya — at approximately 1,990 metres above sea level, a small crater lake sits in the highlands above the Gömbe plateau in the Kaş district. The lake takes its name from its water: the dissolved minerals in the lake and the angle at which light reflects from its surface produce a colour that shifts between shades of green depending on the time of day and the season. It is a visually striking high-altitude lake, small in size but extraordinary in setting — enclosed by steep rock faces and sparse highland forest.

Yeşil Göl sits entirely outside Antalya's coastal tourism circuit. For visitors who want to see the province's high-altitude landscape rather than its beaches, it is one of the finest destinations available. The simple fact that a lake like this exists at 1,990 metres within a few hours of the Mediterranean coast is itself a remarkable piece of geography.

Gömbe Plateau

Yeşil Göl is best visited as part of a route that includes Gömbe Yaylası — a high plateau village connected to the Kaş district. Cool, quiet, and relatively little-known, Gömbe offers a genuine escape from the heat of the coast in summer. The Uçansu Waterfall is another stop on the same route.

Practical Information

  • Location: Gömbe Yaylası, Kaş. Approximately 40 km from Kaş town centre, 210 km from Antalya city centre.
  • Getting there: By private car from Kaş centre, take the Elmalı junction north toward the Gömbe route. The road is mountainous and winding; the final section continues on a trail. Walking time from Gömbe plateau to the lake is approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
  • Entrance fee: Free.
  • Time needed: Half to a full day including the walk.
  • Best time to visit: June to October. Access may be blocked by snow in winter and early spring.
  • Important: Weather can change rapidly at altitude — bring a waterproof layer and extra clothing. Water and food must be brought in advance; facilities at the plateau are limited.
  • Combine with: Gömbe Yaylası, Uçansu Waterfall, and Kaş ancient city lie along the same route.
