One of Turkey’s Deepest and Wildest Chasms
Located within the borders of Ahmetler Village in the Manavgat district, Ahmetler Canyon is a literal "lost world" for nature enthusiasts. With cliff walls reaching up to 400 meters in some places, where sunlight struggles to reach the bottom, this canyon is considered one of the deepest in Turkey. Stretching approximately 12 kilometers, it is renowned not only for its physical grandeur but also for the spirit of "anti-hydroelectric resistance" through which the local people successfully fought to preserve their natural heritage.
Adventure and Ice-Cold Waters
Once you enter the canyon, your connection with the outside world is completely severed. Filled with giant rock formations, waterfalls, and deep natural pools, Ahmetler Canyon is a highly technical and challenging route for professional canyoners. Even on the hottest summer days, the water temperature rarely exceeds 10-12 degrees Celsius. The internal ecosystem is a true sanctuary for wildlife, featuring rare aquatic plants and predatory birds that nest on the steep canyon walls.
Practical Information
- Location: Near Ahmetler Village, Manavgat district.
- Transportation: Reached via the Akseki road; after arriving at Ahmetler Village, a stabilized road leads to the canyon entrance.
- Difficulty Level: Very high. Passing through the entire canyon requires professional equipment and guides.
- Activities: Technical canyoning, photography, and swimming near the entrance.
- Caution: Entering the canyon during rainy weather is extremely dangerous due to the risk of flash floods.
