A Hidden Agora in the Forests of Manavgat

Hidden in the pine forests north of Manavgat, Lyrbe is one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the region. Long misidentified as "Seleukeia," this city was actually a mountainous Pamphylian settlement in antiquity. Today, the sunlight filtering through the massive columns tells you a tale of a forgotten time.

Turning Points of History

Estimated to have been founded in the 4th century BC, Lyrbe became a commercial and cultural center, especially during the Roman period. The "Seven Sages Mosaic" found in the city (now in the Antalya Museum) proves how deeply intertwined it was not only with trade but also with philosophy and art. Thanks to its mountainous location, it was protected from pirate raids and has largely preserved its architectural fabric to this day.

The Peak of Architecture: The Magnificent Agora

The heart of Lyrbe is undoubtedly its agora (marketplace), standing with its two-story shops and monumental gates. This area, one of the most intact agoras in the Pamphylia region, shows how vibrant a social life the city once had. Additionally, the library, bath, and remains of a small theater complete the city's sophisticated structure.
